Both the Aztec and the Mayans used symbols to mark the 20 days in each of the 18 months in their calendars. As with the Tonalpohualli/Tzolkin 260-day cycles above, these symbols were of animals, gods, and natural elements. The 18 months themselves also had similar but different names in the Xiuhpohualli / Haab 365-day cycles.
