I believe you meant "putting a gen 3 G19/23 slide on a gen 4 G19/23 frame". There's an overtravel stop built in the slide. The slide was designed to end its travel at that stop. A gen 3 slide will hit a smaller area only instead of the full surface and eventually will chew it up.
